Muscles worked and key exercises

The hack squat targets the quadriceps with the glutes and hamstrings assisting; feet placed high and wide bring in the glutes and adductors, and rising onto the toes at the top trains the calves. The back pad keeps the torso stable so the spine is not loaded as in a barbell squat.

Build quality and adjustment

The carriage runs on commercial-rated sealed bearings with continuous welds, the shoulder and back padding is protective, the frame is quality steel tubing with a two-coat powder finish, and the plate horns take standard Olympic plates. Safety stops hold the carriage at the bottom of the range.

Like every Plate Load machine, it carries a two-coat, electrostatically applied powder finish in black with a vermilion-red texture; 5 cm of rebonded foam under 10 mm of high-density foam with a CGPC PVC cold-latex leather cover, double stitched; dipped PVC handgrips; continuous welds at all pivot points; and commercial-rated sealed bearings at every pivot. Resistance comes from the Olympic plates the facility already owns, loaded on the machine’s horns.
